Glad to Help

It seems as if we have misplaced Nebraska. To a lot of you this may not seem much of a loss, but I've been there and it really isn't such a bad place. For all the excitement this news should have caused, it was relegated to a short statement on CNN.com:

At least they are looking.

Now this really shouldn't be too hard. First, head for Kansas. When you get there, go due north. You can't miss it. And let's learn from this experience. Next time it might be Rhode Island and it will be a lot harder to locate.

Ah, yes, Nebraska. Miles and miles of flat. Kansas, too, has miles and miles of flat, however, there is something about Kansas that is much more appealing than Nebraska. Perhaps a bit greener? I'm not sure. I'd take a Kansas stretch of highway over a Nebraska stretch any day.

We CAN'T lose Nebraska! Everyone should get to relish large exspanses of green - wheat, corn, barley, alfalfa, soy beans, short grass and long grass prairie. Reminds me of heaven - exspanses of beauty, calm, peace. Signing this as a former dweller in prairie land, Denver!

Haha, Dad! I didn't know you were such a funny writer! Sorry, but I didn't! Hee, hee. But you are!

I liked the "Open Letter to Lance Armstrong" post too, re: your own shoulder fracture.

Thanks for coming up and seeing me and Stellan! I love you!!

If Nebraska is lost, then so am I, since I live here! I used to live in California, and I much prefer Nebraska. More room to stretch out, and not wall to wall people. Though in the area of the arts, it does leave something to be desired.

What? Lose Nebraska? Not possible....although many East and West coasters think of us as no-mans land....I challenge them to try NOT to think of us next time they're eating that nice, juicy corn fed steak....
Go Cornhuskers!

Wow, how can you loose such a wonderful state! I wonder if I got lost in the shuffle!? Maybe that's why I feel like I've traveled for days! LOL!

What a fun and creative post! :)

I just came to your blog from Mckmama's. I see you are going to ride in Glacier National Park. I use to work in the park and now I only live about 30 minutes away. I sent in a picture to Mckmama last summer with Stellan's name from a Mountain top in GNP. Small world!
Good luck on your ride!

Well, I certainly hope they can find Nebraska! Megan R. is pretty funny and I'd hate to think she was lost for good. Not to mention, are those "Omaha Steaks" they advertise really from Nebraska? Just wondering.

And since I'm over here and commenting~~
Just want to say that you have 2 fantastic daughters that I not only enjoy following their blogs but getting to know better, as well. Maybe when we all come to the MckPicnic or MckCruise, you and your wife will get to be there as well and we can meet the ENTIRE family. Sounds like fun!

I see where MckMama gets her writing talents! I really enjoyed the letter to Lance. My fav so far is the clashing plaids comment. That was great! So do we get to call you MckPoppa or something clever like that??

Just like Megan....if we lose Nebraska, I'm most definetly lost! If only the outsiders knew how happy we were...we were recently rated the happiest state in terms of economy, not to mention we're the home of Kool-Aid and the string ball and Car Henge!

Well the apple doesn't fall far from the tree does it?
You are as creative a writer as your sweet daughter. I have grown to love this sweet sister in the Lord to me and her family.
You may be PROUD of the job you have done with her, PROUD to be her dad and it appears that she may call herself PROUD to call you daddy.
Thank you for sharing her with us.

Love your daughter's blog - and everyone is right - y'all are both hilarious (and very entertaining). Thank you for this!

I just wandered over here from MckMama's blog and saw that you will be headed to my former home town of Pueblo, CO soon. I just want to share that you will find no better Mexican food on the planet then you will find in Pueblo. Try anything smothered in green chili from any one of the fine family owned and operated restaurants (e.g. Rita's, Nacho's, Mill Stop etc). You won't be disappointed!

I couldn't find Nebraska even if it wasn't lost! I live in the back hills of SW Virginia...we don't stray too far out of these Appalachian mountains (pronounced Appa-LATCH-un, thank you very much)!!!

Contrary to popular belief, we are educated, we wear shoes, and the majority of us have indoor plumbing. LOL

I'm glad I hopped over from MckMama's to check out your blog. You are too funny!

BTW, MckMama is an inspiration to us all...I see that she comes from good stock. :o)

Blessings...
Beth E.

Your daughter MckMama is great - I love her blog! I will be bookmarking yours as well now.

Ok...that is pretty funny. Although I personally think it would be quite tragic if RI was next as it is the place that I call home (and we wouldn't be too hard to find...Rhode Islanders are LOUD!!)

Oh, you are so funny. I loved the photo of you and your grandson. We've been praying for him.

Miles and Miles of flat??? You must have not been to central nebraska where there are tons of rolling hills. You know they don't call it the Sandhills for nothing...It truly is a great place to live.

That's hysterical!

I just wanted to say thank you very much for the kind comment you left on my blog, and the prayers. I appreciate any and all concern right now. And as always, I am praying for MckMama and Stellan. She's been quite the inspiration to me lately, and I can't wait to get my bracelet. (It's even more special because my favorite color is orange, too! haha)

Take care,
Mal

Just headed over from MckMama's blog and it was worth it! Funny, funny post. As a Pacific Northwesterner living in a suburb of Seattle, I have to tell you that I LOVE the song in your sidebar! Cute!

Very good catch on that CNN headline, and then your funny post... :-D

As an Ohio gal newly transplanted to south central Kansas, I have to say I really love these prairie lands and how far the eye can see; it's amazing to watch a storm approach! When the green wheat meets the blue sky, you realize why blue and green are such relaxing colors. I'm glad Kansas isn't lost!!

My dad was a runner and bicycler. I remember he did a Great Lakes loop, and he & my brother did a Pacific Coast trip on their bikes once. I'll have to follow along with you on your adventures!

I love finding news snippets like that! I started (but never finished) a post with a bunch of goofy ones recently. I am glad I am not the ONLY one that likes that kind of humor!

I am IN LOVE with that picture of you and Stellan! It says so much to my heart!

Enjoy your visit, and our nice warm not so frozen tundra weather!

I'm a Nebraska girl and have to say its the place I think of when I listen to feel good country music like Rascal Flats. There is a good amount of Mayberry in that sweet expanse of smooth prairie land.

Grew up in Western Kansas, transplanted to Eastern Nebraska, I like both. Some people think that there is nothing out there to look at, the problem is that they don't know what to look for. (i.e. determined box turtle trying to get over the rail-road tracks, seven or eight different town's firework displays that are spread over fifty plus miles... the list is as endless as the prairie.)

Ahhh...Nebraska!

We live in "small town", Georgia. With that said, I heart Nebraska!! Seriously. And, it makes me question...is there really anything wrong with "people" forgetting Nebraska??? Really. :o)

Just saw J's posting that you blog! That's awesome!

This posting about Nebraska about made me pee my pants. What a great observation -- how funny!

God bless you,
Andrea.

PS: Hope they don't lose RI next as you speculated; we live in CT and my guess is that we'd be next... ;)

got here from MckMama's site... and she is right, you are funny!

We live in Idaho... you have passed right through us on your Seattle ~ Missoula ride (though I am sure you stayed on I-90).

Are you a Northwesterner?

That would be bad if they couldn't find Nebraska...what oh what would hollywood do...they no longer have the state they always make fun of. Seriously, there are so many times when they are making fun of Nebraska...Also I would be missing as well. Pam, yup "omaha steaks" is from nebraska... they are great! cornfed beef is the best. Funny post! :)

Obviously if people think that Nebraska is flat, they've never left the interstate. Come to the sandhills of nebraska, and we will show you that were not flat.
